When the roads are not icy or snow covered David prefers to travel on two wheels rather than four.  David has been married for over 30 years to his wonderful wife, Jeannette.  Together they have two young adult children, Loren David and Breanne Jenay.  Both currently live in the Twin Cities.

While living in Portland, Oregon David and his family enjoyed restoring a 1963 Dodge Polara, a project that reminded him that God is also in the restoration business. Below, you can read how Jesus Christ restored David's life and click here to learn how you too can know God personally.

Before I Received Christ:

Throughout my childhood I was often called monjas (moon-yas)! Or wacicu (wa-she-chew)! These names mean white man, pale-face or more literally, moon-face. You see, during my grade school years I lived on North American Indian reservations where my father served as a Bureau of Indian Affairs social worker.

When my family moved from the Indian reservation I was 14 years old. I wanted to be accepted by my peers, so I willingly did whatever it took to win their approval. I let my hair grow long, I played guitar in a rock ‘n’ roll group and I began to experiment with drugs. I did many things to please my friends, but it was never enough. The only people who really cared for me continually where those who attended my church.

I had gone to church all of my life but I had never been a follower of Jesus Christ personally. I knew Jesus had died so that my sins could be forgiven; I knew Jesus had risen from the dead and is now in heaven; but I hadn’t followed Jesus Christ and allowed Him to be in charge of my life.

How I Received Christ:

An Indian friend from the reservation (in South Dakota) visited me (in southern Iowa) and attended my church. He instantly saw what I had been unable to see. He was not a Christian, but he said, “David, these people really have something!” I was shocked. At that moment I realized that what I had been looking for was found in the personal relationship with Jesus Christ that my friend saw in these Christians. At that moment I prayed to God, asking that He forgive me for rejecting Him in the past. By faith I received Christ into my life. From that moment on He began to change my life. In fact, in time He has turned my life completely around.  (click here to learn more about Salvation through Jesus Christ)

After I Accepted Christ:

I know what my life would have been like…my friends who did not follow Christ indicate where I was headed: some dropped out of school; they struggle with drugs and alcohol problems; they have fathered illegitimate children and neglected their care; and some have gone to prison for such things as armed robbery.

I was headed for a life of destruction and pain just as my friends had experienced. But because I have followed Jesus as Lord of my life, I have experienced a life with inner peace and purpose even when life has been tough.

What the Bible says is true: “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.”  2Corinthians 5:17
